Hmmm...
I rarely use the PG recent files list, but in Leopard (OSX 10.5.1), at
least, opening from File/Open, the PG, Finder or Spotlight cause the
files to appear on both the MRU List (under the File menu) and in the
Recent pane of the PG.
I remember it *not* working that way, but I don't recall which
version(s) of OSX and Office that was.
Having said that - the PG MRU is stored in the
~:Library:Preferences:Microsoft:com.microsoft.Office.prefs.plist
file (where ~ is your home directory), while XL's MRU list is stored in
~:Library:Preferences:Microsoft:com.microsoft.Excel.prefs.plist
and the two lists aren't synchronized.

Thanks.
I'm using Leopard 10.5.1, so that shouldn't be an issue(?). I'm also
using PathFInder from Cocoatech instead of Finder. I'll play around
with it some more and see if there is a difference between Finder and
PathFinder.
