importing space and/or comma delimited file

Just do it :-).

The trick is:  Open Excel, then select File:Open   and select the file
from the usual dialog box.

Excel will then start up a series of dialog boxes in which you specify
the input  data are delimited, click on the delimiters (comma, tab,
space, etc),  and off you go.

Note that in most configurations if you drag&drop the file onto Excel it
isn't smart enough to bring up this Import dialog.
