I'd like to link a worksheet with another worksheet in another excel
file.  Instead of having a "live" link, I'd like it to up an
updateable link.

Any such thing?

I'm not sure what you mean. A link in one workbook to another is "live" when
both are open.

Are you referring to the setting for Manual v. Automatic updating of the
Links? That only applies if you're linking to an object other than another
Excel file. Since all files of the same type share the same application RAM
manual updating isn't an option - the client will update any time it is open
while the server file is being changed.

However - if the box is checked in Excel> Preferences> Edit - "Ask to update
Automatic Links" the Links will *not* automatically update when you open the
client file - if the server file is not open at the time.
