Hi,
I am running office 2004 for mac on a 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4 with 1.25 GB
ram. When working in excel I try to highlight a group of cells that
extends beyond the current page view. Excel automatically scrolls up,
down, right, or left depending on the direction that I am dragging
however the response has become very slow. As a consequence I end up
highlighting way to many columns or rows (tens to hundreds) and when I
try to go back the same problem occurs going way to far in the other
direction. I use excel a lot with very large spread sheets but this
problem has not always occurred and is not limited to the large
spreedsheets. Any help would be fantastic as this is driving me
crazy. Thanks.

One approach would be to click on the first cell only, then use the
scroll bars to find the last cell and Shift-Click.
Another ideas is if you often return to the same group of cells,
select it and give it a name. Then you can just write the name into
the name box to select.

Sorry, but you can't change this rate. Try zooming out before selecting.

Along with the others I strongly suggest that you explore other techniques
for selecting a range of cells :-) Dragging is one of the most cumbersome &
inefficient ways to go about it - always has been. In addition to some good
alternatives already offered take a look in Excel Help on selecting cells.
