Hi, Using xl 2004 version 11.3.5
Problem is after setting Scroll Area to my database size can no longer
select columns or rows or edit outside the scroll area. Is this normal. Have
a rather large database and was tired of scrolling into empty space.
Any way around this bar deleting scroll area settings.
Thanks Paul

Hi Paul -

I don't think I have an answer for you as I have no idea what you mean by
"setting Scroll Area". In ~20 years I've seen no such feature in any version
of Excel, PC or Mac. Can you be more specific about what you've done & how
you went about it? Is this something you've done programmatically? I'd
appreciate any insights on the issue :)

Number of visible rows/columns?

Look at the ScrollArea Property in XL/VBA Help.

This is a very common setting for XL applications, often backed up by
the Workbook_SelectionChange event if the app leaves the Name box
accessible.

If you are doing this with the list manager, that is what it is for. You'll
have to turn it off to select something outside the list area, if the list
area is larger than your screen sixe. Try zooming and then select another
cell.

Hi again, When you open in VBA mode, in the projects windows double click on
the sheet you are using then in the properties window
3rd line from the bottom is the scroll area if you set this, it limits how
far you can scroll. I should have been more specific.
Thanks

Yes, in this case this is completely normal. That is what setting this is
for. No, the only way around is to delete or change the scroll area
settings.

Wellll, Yeah.... that makes a bit of a difference:-) As Bob G has explained
you basically got what you asked for, but the range can be adjusted as
necessary.

Unless you have a specific need to use that capability you might try leaving
it unchanged and just drag the Scroll Bar button. It automatically sets
itself to the extent of the used area on the sheet, but you can still use
the Scroll Arrows to go beyond if need be & it doesn't take the peripheral
cells out of action. If you aren't familiar with them you might also want to
take a look in Excel Help for other navigation techniques.

If you've set the Scroll area via VBA, you can still select cells
outside that area using the Name box on the Formula toolbar. For
instance, if your scroll area is A:D, you can enter G7 in the Name box
and make an entry. You can also type in a range, say, G5:G10, and you
can make entries and use the Return and Tab keys to navigate.
