This is usually pretty stable and works fine. Excel does indeed remember the
source files for the links. What happens if you open them first and then
open the target workbook? Is the path in the cannot find message correct? Is
it possible that one or more of the source files has moved since you
generated the formula? Are any of the files on a server? Is the server
volume mounted when you open the workbook? You may find it easier to make
any changes by going to the edit menu and clicking on links. Here you can
update the path to any of the files (if they have moved) and all referenced
formulas will be correctly updated.
