Hi,
try this on an AutoFilter'ed worksheet in Excel X:

Edit>Clear>Formats
Assign cell shading pattern
Sort using AutoFilter

And the cell will revert to its original formatting :-(
The cell that is now at the coordinates of the change is not affected.

I've had my share of bugs with my autofilterred sheets, but I can't
replicate this problem with mine.  The pattern moves with the cell.
Same with a fill shading.

A *border* however, does behave as you describe.  It stays on the cell
location rather than moving with the contents of the cell that was
originally selected.  This sort of inconsistency in the app is
unfortunate and frustrating.
