Paste column widths

I am trying to copy the formatting, mainly the column width from one
worksheet to another within one file.  I have tried select-all, then
format painter, and select all in the new sheet and paste format
painter.  This is acting funky with the bottom row expanding too much
and cutting off two rows at the bottom.  Any hints?

Thanks,

Jenny

Okay, hate to say this, but after working for 20 minutes frustrated
with this and excel freezing up on my mac, i took it over to the PC and
it is working fine...

Hi Jenny -

I partially agree with Harry about the Format Painter... It works ok to copy
the formatting of _one_ cell to others, but isn't designed for what you are
trying to do.

Select All on the source sheet & Copy, go to the target sheet & select cell
A1, then go to Edit>Paste Special, choose Formats. That should apply all
formatting to the target sheet, including column widths.

PS - I almost forgot... The Paste Special dialog also has a selection for
pasting only Column Widths if that's all you're interested in.

Don't bother with the silly Format Painter.

Simply click on the title of the column (A, B, etc.) or drag across
multiple columns. That will select the entire column, copy it (the
normal Edit > Copy), go to the other spreadsheet and click in the first
actual cell of the column or the column title and paste ... Excel will
copy all the information, including the column width. You can then use
the Clear option in the Edit menu to wipe out any cell data.

You can copy / paste columns (or rows) between sheets, worksbooks /
files, or within the same sheet.

If you want the whole sheet, click on the small area to the left of the
A and above the 1, that will select the entire spreadsheet.
