I have suddenly started getting a message that states 'Cannot empty the
clipboard' when i try to copy cells in any worksheet.  If I OK this and
carry on Excel crashes and either hangs for a while or immediately
closes down.  I have checked the help functions and there is no
reference to 'clipboard' anywhere! Any help would be very useful!

Mark,

What's on the clipboard before you ty to copy cells? What's in the cells
you're copying?

Look forward to your reply.

Regards,
Hilena

Hello, I am also getting the error message when working in Excel:
"Cannot empty the Clipboard."  It happens sporadically.  When I close
Excel and reopen the doc, I can copy and paste again until I get the
error message again.
Sometimes I can copy and paste 30 times before the error comes,
sometimes I get the error on the first attempt.  There is nothing
special in the cells that I am copying- just normal text- about 10-20
letters.
Right now I am stuck where I get the message on every attempt if after
I close and reopen Excel.  Also, the paste function is not working in
any other application such as Outlook and Notepad.  I highlight text,
right-click & copy, but paste is greyed out.
I'll look through some of the internet knowledgebases while I await
your reply.  I'll post a solution if I come across one.  I'm thinking a
reboot will reset functionality at least for a while.

Looks like Experts Exchange has some solutions posted, but I'm not a
paid member so I can't read them:
http://tinyurl.com/dl9sr
(Because of my clipboard problems, I could not copy and paste the link
so I hope I typed it correctly :p )

Ok, looks like I found the solution a
http://www.bjkresearch.com/bugblog/bb0407.cfm :
"Microsoft says that if you connect to a Windows Server 2003 serve
that is running either Terminal Server or Remote Desktop fo
Administration, you may lose the ability to copy and paste items i
Microsoft Office 2003. While you can copy to the clipboard, you may no
be able to paste, and you will see this error message
Cannot empty clipboard.
Microsoft has a hotfix for this, which will be in a future Window
Server 2003 service pack. If you can't wait for the fix, contac
Microsoft Technical Support and ask for the hotfix described i
Knowledge Base article 840872. Note that you may be charged for thi
call."
