Keeps asking for sponsored/light/paid mode

After a computer crash, every time I start up Eudora it gives a dialog
box stating that "we can't figure out which mode you want to use.
We'll default to sponsored" or something like that.  Then it goes to
the Payment and Registration dialog, where I choose "sponsored mode".
Yet the next time I start Eudora, it happens again.

I've tried clearing the pram, rebuilding the desktop, trashing the
system preferences.

I'm running a Raspberry iMac, OS 9.2, Eudora 6.1.1 Classic.

You should be able to choose the "Light" mode in Payments & Registration
if it is your desire to avoid the sponsors, etc. I use an older version of
Eudora and was able to make that choice. You don't want 'sponsored mode".

I suspect your Settings file was corrupted by the crash.  You can
rebuild it by holding down all modifier keys
(command-option-control-shift) while you select Settings from the
Special menu.  You will have to reenter some of your settings, but the
server and user name information will be retained.  (In case this
doesn't solve the problem, first put a copy of the Settings file
someplace Eudora won't look for it [on the desktop, for instance] so you
can easily revert back to it.)

If it does solve the problem, you'll want to reenter your various
customizations.  To make it easier, get a list of them first by opening
a new message and then selecting Help | Insert System Configuration.
