How to open large mail file locally in Eudora

I typically get over 4,000 emails daily, mostly SPAM, of course, but a
lot that I need to respond to.  I do ecommerce, and receive many mails
from my customers.

While on vacation recently, I wasn't able to check mail as often as
usual, and on two occasions the mail file on my virtual server grew to
about 190 MB.  Wben I tried to download, I got a message like:

"Unable to copy spool folder, disc quota exceeded."

I FTPd (using Transmit) the big files, and have saved them on my
Powerbook, but I can't get them to open with Eudora.

I can open the files with Word or Netscape, and they look OK, but
neither of those options will allow me to use my Eudora filters.

I seem to recall being able to open such local files with a previous
version of Eudora, but the 6.1 I'm running won't recognize them.

Is there any way I can recover these messages in a usable (filterable)
format?

I've already tried doing "get info" on the file and selecting "Eudora"
with the "Open with" pulldown.  When I double-click the file, or drop it
on the Eudora icon in the dock, it just opens up a blank Eudora message
with the file as an attachment to send.

I'm running the latest (10.4) Panther OS.

Thanks for any help.

I had tried Eudora support but they were useless.

Make sure the files have the right line endings. Then in the mailbox
menu select 'other' and browse to the mbox-files.

OTOH, I would recommend that you used something else than Eudora if you
receive 4000 mails/day.

If David Bonde's suggestion doesn't work for you (it should, although you
will have to select all messages and then select "Filter" to have your
filters applied, and even then only those filters that are set for Manual
operation will work), you can always try the UUCP method that is outlined on
page 410 of the Eudora manual.
