Eudora 6.0.2, OS 10.2.4 on iMac G4:  When I check mail, there is a
noticeable delay between retrieving messages and actually displaying
them in my Inbox.  I have checked the Task Progress window, and
everything proceeds quickly there, the check and download are done in
a flash -- but well after the Task Progress shows that Eudora has
retrieved a message, I have to wait quite a bit for it to show so that
I can read it.

In Eudora 5, I recall that the msgs were put in the Inbox as they were
retrieved, so one could see them being downloaded.  Now, however, all
the retrieval is done while I wait to see what has showed up.

More of a minor annoyance than a major problem, but still...

TIA for any suggestions or comments.

It sounds as though there is some message processing taking place- filters
being applied. Maybe it's a product of the spam filtering actions?

Yes, I agree, you sound quite right.  But I have very few filters, and
have left the Junk settings at default.  In fact, all my settings are
exactly as they were in V. 5 -- my installation of the V. 6.0.2 update
took about 10 seconds, and I changed nothing afterwards.  The delay
never occurred in V.5.

A related issue is that when I send an email and do not wish to save a
copy, the message sits in the Out mailbox for about the same length of
time, 8-10 seconds, before finally being dumped into the Trash.

I'm using a PowerBook 1400cs/117 running OS 9.1.  Eudora 6.0.2 is
frustratingly slow to perform any task.  Any command (copy, cut, paste,
quit, etc.) takes 4-5 seconds to execute.  So I don't worry about the
delay while the mail appears in the Inbox or Junk.

I assume Eudora has more background tasks running in 6.0.2 than it did
in my previous version, 4.3.
