Importing mailboxes from Mailsmith

Hi,
I'm returning, with a great feeling of relief, to good ol' Eudora after
a disastrous attempt to use Mailsmith. (Main problems with the latter:
too powerful filtering system which requires each user to be an
Applescript buff, integration with Apple's clunky address book which
makes composing mail far less simple than with the Eudora system).

My only problem is this: how to re-transfer my Mailsmith mailboxes to
Eudora?

Mailsmith allows me to export my mailboxes to "mbox" format, but Eudora
refuses to directly recognize the resulting files, telling me that
"Selection is not a properly formatted mailbox".

I've carried out reasonably extensive web searches to try and find a
solution, but there seem to be programs and scripts for practically
everything but Mailsmith.

(I have found a program called "EmailAlchemy"
http://www.weirdkid.com/products/emailchemy/index.html , but it costs
25 dollars, and although it would probably do what I want, there's no
explicit mention of Mailsmith in the documentation.)

Can anyone help? Many thanks,

First off, before I forget, check at <http://www.emailman.com/> and you
may find a utility that will convert the files for you.  However, you
may be able to fix it by just selecting a mailbox in the Finder, Get
Info, and tell the Mac to open it with Eudora and change all.

If that doesn't work and you don't find a utility to fix things for you,
you might need to fix the line endings and save the document as a
generic text document.  (Work with copies, so you don't risk your
original mailboxes.)  Use BBEdit or BBEdit Lite or other text editor.  I
like BBEdit/BBEdit Lite, because you can choose Save as..., click on the
options, and get options to save as a generic text document with Mac
line endings.  I think Eudora will open those--try the Finder trick
again if she won't.

Worst case scenario, you might have to use ResEdit to set the creator.
Sorry, I don't remember offhand what the code is for Eudora.

CSOm.

Rather than use Resedit, I use FileTyper. Runs beautifully in
10.2.6/Classic.

Thanks, Peter.

Probably less dangerous, too. :-)
