Nothing flagged "junk" any more

Hi folks,

Ever since upgrading to Eudora 6.0.2 (paid version), "junk" mail is
delivered to the Inbox and very little spam . . . actually, I don't
think any . . . gets directed to the Junk mailbox.

Any clues to what has happened?

Thanks in advance.

What are the junk settings?

Junk settings: Mail is considered junk if score is 50. Yet mail with a
score of 100 appears in the Inbox.

What are the other junk settings?  (Including junk extras)

Junk Mail:
Consider mail junk if score is at least 50
€Mail isn't junk if sender is in address book
€Remove mail that is at least 3 days old
€Warn before removing

Junk Extras:
Only remove junk whose score is at 75
Transferring to junk assigns score of 60
€Delete junk from server
€Do not believe date on junk mail

I've now checked "Hold junk in Junk Mailbox" (thanks to a clue from
Kathy) but I still don't understand why junk with a score of 50 to 100
isn't automatically sent to the Junk mailbox.

I think just more of Eudora's flexibility.  Most of us would want the
junk to go to Junk, but a few might want to do other things with it
instead.  (Maybe forward to Spamcop then trash, or create complaint mail
ready to send to abuse@ and then delete, or *gasp* maybe someone even
reads it.) (Not me!)

Not me either Kathy <grin> . Checking that box seems to have done the
trick. Thank you!

But I've noticed more spam recently passing through the gates. Something
(tm) happened after upgrading to Panther and/or to Eudora 6.0.1/2. I now
sometimes find blatantly obvious spam getting junk scores in the low 20's,
and regularly have to check the Junk mailbox for false positives.

FYI, the regular Junk pref pane has the threshold score set at 50, Mail
isn't junk if sender in Address book, Hold Junk in Junk mailbox (re
above), Junk mailbox never unread - and the rest aren't really relevant (I
think). In the Junk Extras pref pane, it says Only remove junk whose score
is at 0 (is this right? I belive it's the default), Trim old junk to
Trash, Transferring to junk scores 100, Delete Junk from server and Do not
believe date on junk mail. Seems kosherk, doesn't it?

Yes, sounds right to me.  I don't know why you'd be getting more false
positives and negatives--other than the spammers just keep learning and
working their way around filters.  I always end up with some junk in my
In box and occasionally have good mail go to the Junk folder, although
that doesn't happen often any more.

Have you put a check in the Junk Mail settings for "Hold junk in Junk
mailbox"?

Thanks Kathy . . . I see that box was NOT checked. Is this option new
with Eudora 6.0.2? In the previous version "junk" mail was sent to and
held in the Junk mailbox.

I don't think it's new, but I'm not sure.  It may have come unchecked
due to minor corruption of the Settings file.
