Eudora 6.2.4 and "Eudora 8" have nothing in common,
because "Eudora 8" is an enhanced version of Thunderbird.
Is a user-provided autocorrect dictionary not possible
in Macintosh "Classic" Eudora, as it is on Windows?
Out of curiosity, what's the format (first dozen lines?)
of the dictionary you already tried?
FWIW, Windows "Classic" Eudora uses old versions
of dictionaries by wintertree-software.com
(newer style dictionaries are incompatible with old format),
to which a user-created personal auto-correct dictionary can be added.

It is possible; I use TidBITS Autocorrect dictionary in Eudora 6.4.2 on
Snow Leopard.

John, you are correct that Eudora 8 is "a wholly different animal"
from Eudora 6, which is why I asked the question. I used Eudora on
the Mac from its inception at the University of Illinois until version
4.??. I used the TidBits autocorrect dictionary on at least ver. 4.
I then was forced to move to Windows for work, where I used the
TidBits autocorrect dictionary (it has something like 5000 entries of
words and replacements, so it is very handy to have). However, when I
got back to the Mac with ver. 6.2.x, I could not get the dictionary
working. Unfortunately I failed in my attempts to get it working back
in September and eventually I deleted the files I was using in the
attempt. I know I tried CRLF conversion from Windows, tried
downloading the original TidBits dictionary, etc. and poked around in
Eudora's "support" files to try to find the proper format, to no
avail.
I have email in Eudora mailboxes going back well over a decade (call
me an electronic pack rat!), have PGP integrated, have all my mail and
attachments stored on a PGP encrypted disk, etc., and I just don't
want to mess with my setup to try the Eudora 8 beta. So if anyone is
running 8 Beta and has had success using Snow Leopard's autocorrect
function, please let me know. Having that working would push me to
make the leap to Eudora 8. Thanks, all!
