Version 0.9 is now available for test. Many improvements but still lots
to do.

Is this really Eudora or just another case of a
different program using the name?
I suppose I should download it to find out.

Well, it is not "a different program using the name" since the name
is Odysseus and not Eudora...

    No, it is not Eudora...

What it is is a blackbox (no looking inside Eudora code, everything
is based only on the externally seen program behavior) a replacement for
Eudora.

It's an attempt, as another poster suggested, to produce an
e-mail application that looks and feels like Eudora, possesses all of
Eudora's best features, adds compatibilities that bring it in line
with contemporary mail applications (things like support for foreign
characters and html), and that will continue to be supported and
developed. It's an earnest attempt.

However, while they're calling it beta v. 0.9, it still has a
VERY long way to go. When the poster says "still lots to do" he's not
joking.

By all means d/l and check it out. But unlike
Penelope/Thundora, which could conceivably be used on a fairly regular
basis, if not for anything mission critical, Odysseus is still more
bugs than working features. I've got money (literally, I'm
pre-registered) on it doing well in the long run. But at present
that's very optimistic.

I prerfegistereed as well, but have not yet seen anything really working
in the previous version.  I will wait and see here in this newsgroup to
see what developments make it worth my time to check on Odysseus again.
Remember, it took him 10 years to get home <ouch>.

I had also thought your last comment needed to be considered.

I haven't preregistered - there's still time to do it. I'm not inclined
to do so until I can either get checking email working (sending mail is
ok) or an explanation of why it isn't working. Without any logs it's
hard to see what the issue is. 0.8.3 just said "error" when I tried to
connect, while 0.9 beeps at me twice.
