But they still call it a very early beta, and there's still quite a
long row of threads reporting bugs.

I'm starting to lose my confidence in IDS. Have they designed
software before Odysseus that worked fine?

What did you expect? A full-equipped Eudora? :-)

I don´t know....

No, but I would have expected the basic functions to work, like
receiving mail, sending mail and replying to it, no matter where
people have their e-mail account.

I would've expected a great deal more than that, since their web site
recently indicated that the full 1.0 release would be coming mid-May.

Now they are saying early June.

I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude... the software is obviously not
ready yet, but let's see what it looks like when it is more fully
developed.  I expect that we'll have to wait beyond early June for that,
though.

I am happy to see that good progress. Eudora is a big collection of
functionality and bringing it to future macs is not an easy task.
I don´t plan moving to Odysseus before end of the year. If it has the
basic features I need at that time, waiting was worth it.

They got a lot of that worked out in the private beta, but a few people
still have trouble sending and receiving... most notably Gmail users --
they say that they will have that working in a few days.

I neglected to note, as to the only previous products claimed by IDS:

we will be improving them extensively over the next few months..

Thanks very much for those links.

The site milano-design was a bit of a surprise.

As to Odysseus, I agree with Roberta: wait and see is the only thing
to do.
If Odysseus is more or less the first (big) piece of software IDS
designs, that would explain a lot. Meanwhile I'm discovering the
beauty of Apple Mail and Gyazmail. :-)

Just don't delete a Mail account, without saving your InBox.  <:)

I accidentally did that once, but could recover the inbox by immediately
recreating the account.

Mail hHelp says:

I just tried the Account delete and immediate recreation of it.
The Inbox Emails were lost.
I retrieved them when I recreated the account, only because they were
not deleted from the server.

The beta that is in use will not allow mail to be deleted from the server

In fact there is no current option to allow it to do so even if you
wanted to do it. This will be added later in a more stable build

I'm wondering if this beta is totally independent of  Mac Eudora files.
Can I install and try this beta without affecting my current Mac Eudora
files?

You have to enter all new info and set it up again

The beta will not allow server files to be removed so it is totally safe

Good it's totally safe for the server files,
but you say I have to reenter my server info.?
My question was does this beta affect my current Eudora setup?
Can I run the beta without affecting my current Eudora?

Yes, it is completely different software that stores its files in
different locations.
