Erm, and then what? Did the above happen just once, or does it happen
everytime you let Eudora fetch mail?
Did the (blue) progress bar finish, or did it get stuck?
If it got stuck, your mail wasn't fetched. If however it did finish,
your mail was fetched, and probably simply ended up in another mailbox
than you expected, either through Eudora's Junk filter, or through one
of your own. Similarly, your filters might also have deleted the
incoming mail, or changed its status to Read.
You should probably double check the contents of your Junk mailbox, and
your filter settings. If that doesn't bring up the culprit, enable
Eudora's logging functions to see what it actually does when fetching
mail; whether the mail is succesfully fetched and if so, what happens to
it after that.

That applies to all "beta" software. "Beta" means "for testing purposes
only".

What version of Eudora are you using? It's not clear to me if you are
using the real Eudora or the Thunderbird Eudora project. That would
probably make a difference in what we can suggest.

Maybe, but I don't really think that's too likely. Sander's suggestions
seem more likely to me.
Also, as Sander suggested, turn on the logging functions to see what is
happening when you check mail. (If you don't see the logging functions
in the Settings, you'll need to enable the Esoteric Settings plugin.)
