Infinity Data Systems is promising a beta for Odysseus (heir presumptive
to Eudora) very, very soon. But they are limiting the initial beta
release to those who are currently registered on the forums; they will
close registration tonight. So, register now if you want to beta test
in this first round:

(Sorry, Matt Milano, if you didn't want someone to do this, but I for
one value the input of us long-time comp.mail.eudora.mac stalwarts).

This is - excuse me - crap!
Long long long time ago I subscibed to a mailinglist that was suppose
to send me alerts from infinitydatasystems when there where anything
new about Odysseus.
Still I have to get rumors, news and gossip about the work on Odysseus
in this forum.

Yes, IDS seems to be taking the view that, for the moment, their
community of input is composed of the people who are subscribed to the
forums, and not those who subscribed to the mailing list. Indeed,
they've made no use of the mailing list at all. They've said that they
will eventually expand their beta test, but they will use this more
limited beta group for now.
As I suggested above, I'm not entirely happy with this situation either,
even though I am a forum subscriber.

The forums appear to be non-functional at the moment.

Yes -- that was part of the announcement. There was a short window
where you could still register; that window is now closed. Then they
said that they'd be taking down the forums for awhile and put the beta
up, making it available only to those who had previously registered.

OK - thanks. I wonder when they will be done with that - it's a good 24
hours since I first saw that the forums were down. I just tried logging
in - no dice yet.

Yeah, I am wondering, too. I guess we're all on "standby" for the
moment.

I first noticed it down about 7:30 Saturday morning, so it's been 2.5
days now. The original announcement seemed to indicate the beta would be
released over the weekend. Since it hasn't been, I hope they are not
having unforeseen problems.
