I've begun receiving "Error while performing unknown task for <<Dominant>> No response from server for 120 seconds" messages, on two different computers (Panther and Tiger) on a wireless network (Airport Extreme) using a cable modem, Lynksis. Never happened until I was trouble shooting my slow download speeds with my cable isp. This slow download issue is to be investigated in afew days but I'm wondering what might have started this strange behavior and if there is anything I can do in the meanwhile. Both email and internet are working just fine on both computers.  SignatureHarvey Products makers of Dinghy Dogs The Boater's Best Friend http://www.dinghydogs.com Remove spam to email Hi If you block Eudora's access to outgoing traffic on port 80 it seems to stop this error (although there may be long term issues if Eudora can't contact the server for long period - but so far I have been running for a couple of hours without the error coming up, whereas previously it was every couple of minutes). I used "little snitch" to block Eudora (actually just change the allow Eudora port 80 rule to a deny Eudora port 80 rule. You should also be able to do the same (or similar anyway) with the IPFW firewall. You can configure that using the terminal or a GUI like WaterRoof. You've probably seen the thread on this topic by now. If you haven't, consensus is that there is a problem with the adserver (which still exists, even though it no longer serves ads). I had the problem for two days, then it went away for a few days, and it is currently back. Mildly annoying, but it doesn't cause any actual problems with mail, so I'm just living with it. Yesterday adserver.eudora.com wasn't answering to http requests. It is strange that for many Eudora users the problem doesn't occur at the same time. To us it is more than "mildly" annoying because the Task Progress window pops up with the error as the frontmost window. When this happens while you are typing an email, it takes a few keystrokes until you notice that your typing is not being accepted. Over a longer period this is not acceptable. For me the /etc/hosts redirection method worked well when I tested it yesterday. Thomas |
