Do you mean while using Eudora to download from Gmail?

The Eudora manual seems to indicate that the "iChat" service
in Mac OS X can be accessed via Eudora Address Book entries
(next to the "To:" and "Cc:" and "Bcc:" buttons),
if the address book entries list iChat accounts under the Home tab
(not that I've ever seen this myself, since the last Mac [mini]
that came across my desk was running Windows XP :)

Of course, email is so instant nowadays, especially at Gmail,
where messages show up 2-3 seconds after being sent,
that it's practically equivalent to chat anyway :)

If you mean when accessing your Gmail account thru your web browser:

Nice chatting with you on this newsgroup
(if my photo appears blank, that's probably an iChat problem :)
