Eudora crashes while it is starting up

I have a serious problem: while Eudora is starting up it crashes
consistently all the time. This also means that I have no access any
more to my address book, mail boxes etc.
The problem started after i unsuccesfully tried to import data in the
adress book of the Mac OS. I tried several times to reinstall Eudora,
but it was to no avail.
Any ideas what I should do?
Many thanks,

This is the usual sign of a corrupted Settings file.

First step: Find the file 'Eudora settings' in the 'Eudora' Folder.

Move it somewhere else and keep it safe, in case this isn't the trouble.

Start Eudora.

If it starts without crashing, you have found your problem.

If it still crashes; because you had a problem importing addresses from
the MacOS address book, you may have corrupted the Eudora address book.
To check that, move the 'Eudora Nicknames' file somewhere safe and try
again.

You mailboxes and mails should all be okay.

Thanks, but unfortunately Eudora continues to crash in both cases.
Moreover I think that some mailboxes have disappeared.
I have a copy of my hard disk on an external hard disk, but there again
I cannot find my Eudora address book, nor most mailboxes.
