Remembering Passwords

I'm using Eudora paid on my Macs.

I cannot recall how to tell Eudora to remember a password.  Have set
up a new .mac alias account, and Eudora is prompting me every 10
minutes (my default time for checking for mail) for the password.
None of my other three accounts ask that question.

Here's what the User Guide says (page 70):

You can also make Eudora remember all of your passwords from one
session to the next,
which means you never have to enter passwords again even if you quit
and restart Eudora.
You want to do this only if your Macintosh is in a secure location,
where there is no possible
chance of someone else having access to it.
To save your password
1. From the Special menu, choose Settings.
2. Scroll the Settings category list and choose Checking Mail.
The Checking Mail settings dialog appears.
3. Check the Save Password box and click OK.

THIS IS WRONG.   IT'S CHECKED, BUT STILL DOESN'T WORK FOR THIS
PERSONALITY.

I dunno, have you quit eudora and restarted it by chance?  When weird
eudora things happen, quiting and re-opening often works for me.

THIS IS WRONG.   IT'S CHECKED, BUT STILL DOESN'T WORK FOR THIS
PERSONALITY.

When Eudora asks for passwords for additional personalities
(or even for "Dominant" if others exist),
does that pop-up have its own "remember password" check box?
[As suggested by illustration on bottom of page 69]

Of course, it is also claimed that
"As long as Eudora is running, it remembers all of your passwords"
(so it should not repeatedly ask within the same session)

It's not doing either of those.  Throughout the session, like
clockwork, the icon bounces and I get asked for the password.  Eudora
is really screwed up.

I just restarted this machine, and that's the first thing that
happened once Eudora got launched.

I'm going to have to simply delete the new address.

What OS are you using?  If you're on OS 8x or 9x, quit Eudora, rebuild
your desktop, give Eudora more memory, and restart Eudora.

If you're on OS X, try toggling the checkbox to remember password.  If
that still doesn't help, you may need to rebuild your Settings file. You
can rebuild the Settings by holding down all the modifier keys
(command-option-shift-control) while you select Settings from the
Special menu.  This will retain your server info, but most of your other
customizations will be lost.  Before rebuilding the Settings, put a copy
somewhere outside the Eudora Folder so you can easily get it back if it
turns out the problem is not solved by rebuilding the Settings.

You can make it a little easier to restore your customizations if you
have Eudora create a list of them for you before you rebuild the
Settings.  Do this by opening a new message composition window and then
choose "Insert system configuration" from the Help menu.
