Below is a response from a friend. Any ideas what may be wrong?

"quoting is knackered in your emailer, it keeps stripping them out in your
replies, so it looks like all the text is the same."

There could be a problem with your emails, or maybe the problem is with
his client.  Any idea what he uses?

I'm attempting to send an email copy of this to you. If you get it, you
could quote back to me in email and I'll let you know how the quoting
looks to another Eudora user.

Sorry for the problems; I had my email server info misconfigured in
MacSOUP and now I'm getting a "permanent fatal error" on the other
address you used.

The problem is with a forwarding loop, apparently between the Yahoo
addresses. My second attempt also bounced with a permanent fatal error.

Problem, as you know, now solved. I'd just like publicly to say, "Thanks for
all your help."

...and your friend is using Entourage?  How does he know it isn't
Entourage that is "knackered"?
