In order for the "Receive MIME Digests as Attachments" preference to
work, two other things need to happen. The listserver must support mime
digests and you must subscribe to the mime digest rather than the
regular digest. Check your list welcome message (you did keep it, didn't
you? :) It should tell you if mime digests are available and how to get
them. If you don't have the welcome message, check the list's web page
if it has one or contact the listmom.

I don't know if this directly relates to your situation, but Google
groups and Yahoo groups are becoming increasingly popular. Both offer
the option to receive digest but the format of the digests doesn't
follow the traditional digest form - at least my preferred method,
Digest Viewer, doesn't work on them. I'm disappointed especially that
the Low End Mac lists have gone to Google groups.
