Using OS 10.4.6 Eudora 6.2.3. Whenever I reply to a message, the
original message is highlighted. So, I have to click somewhere to get
rid of that.  I emailed tech support and got back an answer that said
to click to get rid of that. I tried uninstalling Eudora, everything in
Documents/Eudora and all the stuff in various libraries and then,
re-installed. Same problem. Do any other MAC users have this problem?
And if so, is there a solution??

I believe I looked for a solution to this annoyance and the best that
anyone could come up with was to get used to pressing "left arrow",
"enter" and "up arrow" each time you reply with a quote. Not very
satisfying, but at least you know your Eudora is behaving exactly as it
should! ;-)

Thanks. At least I know it is not me!

Yes, that's by design. It's how Eudora has always worked. (I usually
just hit the up-arrow key to deselect everything and then start
composing the reply.) I'm not sure what the idea behind this is.
Possibly as an indicator that you really should edit the quoted
material, not simply quote everything and place a reply above or below
it.

"Mac", as it's short for "Macintosh". "MAC" is something else.

Well yes, but most of us don't consider it a problem.

To not consider it a problem? ;)

Mac user: "Macs only have 40 viruses, tops!"
PC user: "SEE! Not even the virus writers support Macs!"

I agree with you. Sounds to me the original poster spent a hundred times
more time trying to find a 'solution' than to click in the highlighted
material at the point where you want to start writing (or simply to
start typing if you don't want any of the person's letter in your
response.)

I suspect it's also a subtle attempt by Eudora to educate people about
the sins of top-posting as well.  You actually have to *do* something to
top-post!

That poster was me. I thought it was a simple fix in Preferences but it
wasn't. WIN users don't have this behavior in reply. How come? Anyway,
you are all correct in that the workaround is easy. Most of my email
comes with top replies......

Hi Bea!

I think the answer to that is inherent in your reply. Eudora doesn't
expect WIN users to know better!  :)

And most of them are composed on Microsoft based software that has
always regarded people as incapable of editing a reply, so promoted the
practice! Self-fulfilling prophecies, basically.
