For some reason I am unable to change URL helper application. I am using
Eudora 6.2 on Mac OS 10.4.5. I am following the instructions of
holding down option (alt) key while double-clicking email URL, but there
is no effect, Explorer simply continues to open, there is no dialog
enabling you to select another browser.
I have been using Eudora a long time, and never had a probelm with this
in the past, unless I'm doing something silly.
Another question: I tried emailing Eudora about this because the Eudora
help menu says"If you are using Eudora in Sponsored mode, you can make 6
phone calls or send 6 email messages per year if you continue to use
Eudora in Sponsored mode."
However, my email was returned to me as I am not a paid user, only
sponsored. Is this something they have changed and forgotten to update?

Since some version, by default Eudora relies on LaunchServices (Mac OS
X's reincarnation of InternetConfig) for this, instead of on its
internal helpers list.
So just tell the OS what your default helper should be[1], and Eudora
should pick up on that. Alternatively, if you want Eudora to use another
default helper, there's an x-eudora-setting[2] for that.
[1] Apple provides no UI for this. Getting both RCDefaultApp and Misfox
(free third-party apps) will allow you to configure all of
LaunchServices you might need. Sometimes a helper (Safari for example)
will itself offer the option to make it (or even another app) the
default for a protocol.
