Well, that's certainly weird. I assume you're using Eudora for OS X in
10.3.9, and not in Classic? The only reason I ask that is that
sometimes my programs that run in Classic act exactly the same way. I
can't remember how I usually fix it - I think by shutting down and
restarting.

Hey, I just fixed it myself! Woo-Hoo! What happened was, there's
another thread from me from a few weeks ago ("Can't Load Mishawaka")
that explains how I had accidentally trashed my beloved Mishawaka font.
I got it back, but for some reason I can use it only for display now,
not for printing. So I changed my Eudora preferences so that I print in
Lucida Grande. Ta-da!
