Attachment statement or icon no longer showing up in sent mail... how to fix?

It used to be that when I re-read an old Eudora message, one that had
an attachment, a statement would show up at the end of the e-mail
identifying which document had been sent.  i could even forward the
message to have the actual icon reappear which would allow me to see
just what was sent.

I'm now using 6.2.3 and that no longer shows up.  It's unnerving
because it looks as if I've forgotten to send the attachment!  I now
have to click the Blah-Blah icon and then I get a line buried at the
top "X-attachments: ..."  followed by the name of the document.

I've just tested this on two old messages... in one case, doing a
forward from the message list brought up a new doc with the
attachments; in the other case, I had to first re-open the old e-mail,
click Blah-Blah, and then forward before anything would show up.

Is there a setting I can change to resurrect the old way?

I'm a bit confused about what you're asking.  When you open a message
that you sent out, there is no Blah-blah-blah button.  That only appears
on incoming messages.  I've procrastinated about upgrading, so I'm still
using Eudora 6.2.1, but I wouldn't expect attachment handling to have
changed.  (If I'm wrong, hopefully someone else will speak up about it
and correct my info.)

When I look at my Out box listing, messages which had an attachment show
an attachment icon in the attachments column.  When I actually open an
outgoing message that had an attachment, the attachment is listed at the
top under the heading "Attachments."

On incoming messages, the situation is a little different.  The mailbox
listing shows an icon in the attachments column, but what I see inside
the message depends some on the age of the message and whether I still
have the attachment.  For instance, on an old old message where the
attachment has long since been deleted, the bottom of the messages
shows:
Attachment converted: Macintosh HD:An Electronic Postcard from
       Fox (GIFf/JVWR) (00010858)

On recent messages where the attachment is still present and in the
place where Eudora expects to find it, the attachment is displayed
inline in the message (because that's how I have Eudora set--you can
also set Eudora to not display the messages in line and just
double-click the attachment to open it.)

And here am I thinking of you as the up-to-date Queen.

I'm still using 6.1.1 Light, in 10.2.8 and 10.3.9. It works jolly well.
Would there be any noticeable advantage in upgrading?

Thanks for responding!  Maybe it's something new with 6.2.3 because
when if I look at a message I've sent, there is a Blah-Blah button!
And that attachment line at the bottom of the message generally seems
to NOT be there any more!  Weird, eh?

I checked and the difference doesn't seem to be between e-mails I
received and ones I sent.

One thing nifty in your response is that I never had turned on the
attachments column before.  In click-holding it, a menu of attachment
pops up!  But I'm not sure I want to use the screen space.

By the way, where is the option for showing Attachments in line?  I
went to the attachments pref panel and there wasn't such a choice.

Weird all right, because I am on 6.2.3 and it doesn't do this - it
behaves exactly like it always did.

I suggest you have a bit of scrambling going on somewhere, and I
wouldn't like that on my system.

I have to say I'm surprised that you never used/knew about that column
before as it's been the default on every version of Eudora I've had, way
way back! It's indispensible for me to see quickly what has attachments
and what doesn't, and it only takes a few mm of screen space.

I suspect inline means inline as far as the coding is concerned and not
easily separated out.  Someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

Rifty.

PS Kathy - I don't think you'd have any problems upgrading to the newest
version but at the same time I don't know what it really upgraded. The
one thing it did do was upset my dual ISP system that was a cinch to
rejig depending on what server I was on, but now I *have* to use a relay
personality - which I didn't before.

Well, what I really should have said is that I've chosen to display
graphics in messages.  The setting can be accessed under the Fonts &
Display pref panel.

I'm sure I won't have a problem; I've just been procrastinating about
spending the money.  (I screwed around and waited too long, so I have to
pay the full price.)  I'm sure it's well worth it and I'll do it real
soon now. :-)  Of course, it's not entirely the money, either; I
wouldn't consider any change without doing a backup of my Eudora folder,
which I just haven't gotten around to.  Maybe I'll do that right now
while I'm playing on the computer.

That could just be a coincidence; it may be that one of the ISP's
changed something at the same time you upgraded.  (Or of course it could
be a change in Eudora, too.)

Do you perhaps have Eudora set to automatically cc you on all outgoing
messages?  (Look in the Settings under Sending Mail--do you have a check
in the box for "Automatically Fcc to original mailbox"?)  It may be that
you are looking at the incoming copy of an outgoing message.

I have Eudora set to keep copies of outgoing mail (not to automatically
Fcc).  With this setting, I don't see what you are seeing.
