I've used MT-Newswatcher for years with OS 8/9.x and been quite happy
with it. I'm now migrating to OSX and tried Newswatcher-X. blechh.
The Newswatcher for OSX is lame unfortunately.
Suggestions solicited. What are you using?
Thanks.

I/m using MT-Newswatcher, version 3.4.
Try going to http://www.smfr.org/mtnw/ to get a version of MT-N for
OSX.

MT Newswatcher.
Identical interface for Newswatcher under OS 9, but better features
under the hood.

I use MT Newswatcher with OS10.3.9 and have no problems with it. Suits
all my needs.

Well, to get back to basics, I hate and despise online news readers
(this is a purely religious preference of course) and I use MacSOUP.
Love it.

I haven't use MacSoup since OS 9. I'll have to try downloading a copy and take
it for another test drive. Had liked Thoth when I first switched to OSX but that
went away and have been using MTNW. Asar's Hogwasher has had god reviews but is
a commercial program.

Same here. Since the demise of the unrepeatable NewsHopper, I have looked
around and settled for HogWasher. I don't know why I would ever bother with
an online newsreader. It' just so handy to be able to read stuff offline, at
my leisure :-)

Good to see there are other acceptable offline newsreaders around, but
MacSoup has everything I need. The beauty of offline is that it gives
you the chance to reflect upon what you have written before you send it.
So many times I have written something, left it overnight, and made
wiser changes to it before sending.

I'm using NetNewsWire for OSX. Works great and worth the $25. You can find
it at http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/ .... There is also a lite version for
the great price of $0.
Cheers!

That's not a newsreader in the sense he was asking.
RSS readers have appropriated the name "newsreader" but are not the same
thing at all as Usenet newsreaders.

I am using Unison from Panic. It's not super advanced but really goodly
coded and feels more OS X like.

Check features before you buy it, via trial.

MT-Newswatcher 3.4. http://www.smfr.org/mtnw/
I'm not sure whether you're talking about MTNW above, since there
remains a lot of confusion about the many flavors of Newswatcher. The
thing called NewswatcherX is a pretty simple straight port of the base
Norstad Newswatcher code to Carbon to run under OS X. John Norstad
stopped working on that code many years ago, and MTNW is really the
living version of Newswatcher. All other variants seem to not have been
ported to run natively on OSX.

Between work and home I jump between a OSX laptop and Windoze system. I've
started using Thunderbird (mozilla.com) and have liked it so far. It's nice
since the user interface is similar between the two and they're both free. I've
also used MTNW

As mentioned many times on this group before, for offline newsreading
especially (but for online as well) without fancy stuff, you can't do
better than MacSoup. It depends on the sorts of things you want to
download from the newsgroup as to what suits best.
