Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Just recently converted from pc to Mac and from Outlook to Entourage.
I want to have outgoing mail stay in my out box until I say go, as I used to do in Outlook.
too many times I have accidentally 'sent' something that was not finished and Entourage whipped it out.
I would like to have all outgoing messages stay in the outbox until I quit and send them.
How can I do this?

Messages don't exist in the Outbox until your click the Send or Send
Later button.

Start your message and then select File --> Save. This will save to your
Drafts folder. You can leave it there, quit Entourage, restart Entourage
and it will still be there waiting for your to send it.

You can, of course, always select Entourage menu --> Work Offline to
prevent accidental sending. This will prevent receiving as well, however.

Hope this helps!

In addition to Bill's advice: you could disable any schedule that sends
messages in the Outbox automatically. You can always click on the Send
Later button after composing a message to place it in the Outbox, and
only when you click on the Send/Receive All button will it be sent. You
could also set up a schedule to automatically send all the messages in
your Outbox when you quit Entourage.

My response: if I knew I was going to accidentally send a message, I would take all those precautions. In Outlook, messages would stay in the outbox until "Send and Receive" was ordered by me.
Even now, the inexplicable editing option of "Quit" implies that the outbox would not empty until I quit Entourage. Not so!
Very awkward, and Microsoft needs to fix this and make it an option IMHO.

Entourage does not send on quit by default. It's a schedule that is doing
this. I suggest that you disable all timed schedules and just set to manual.

Thanks: I did all that, so my gripe is that I wish Microsoft had programmed the messages, when completed, to go into the OUT box and from there be sent.
If I press SEND, it goes! Takes some getting used to.

Use Send Message Later (Shift-Command-Enter). The message will go to the
Outbox and will not send until a schedule fires. If you have set to send
manually, it will just sit there until you select Send.

That's exactly what happens. The Send command saves your message to the
Outbox and triggers the message to go out.

Have you considered replacing your Send button with the Send Later
button under View --> Customize Toolbar? The keyboard command is Shift +
Command + Return instead of just Command + Return for Send.

Keep in mind that all messages in the Outbox are there only until you
initiate the Send command manually or a schedule issues the Send command.

Also, Entourage is *not* Outlook. It is not even a port of Outlook. It
is its own application with its own method of working. It is no more
designed to act like Outlook as it is designed to work like Apple's Mail.
