Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Recently, Entourage started opening without the "Folder List" view as the default view. I have to manually select it every time i open the app now. This has never happened for over a year of daily use, until about 1 month ago. Version 11.4.0 (080122) with Leopard 10.5.5

How do I fix the problem? Has anyone else seen this?

I have the same configuration as you (11.4.0 on 10.5.5) and have not seen
this problem. Normally, Entourage opens with the same view as it had when
you quit it. You haven't been closing the main window before quitting, as my
wife usually does, have you?

It sounds like a problem with the Preference file.  Try changing one of the
Preferences in Entourage and quitting with the windows as you want them. If
that doesn't work, you may have to delete the preferences file:
~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Entourage.plist
(where ~ represents your Home directory).

Hope this helps.

Still no luck. Tried both suggestions. Oddly, I recently selected the "Preview Pane" option, and it persists just fine from launch to launch. I can deselect it and it goes away, reselect it and it comes back. same with other settings like columns, etc. It is just the View>>Folder List that won't stick. Any more thoughts?

Steps to help determine where the problem is located.

1) you can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in Entourage
and see if you experience the same problem.

2) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new User
in System Preferences and test Entourage there. If the problem is in your
User's account, then log out/in with Shift key down to disable any startup
items. Test. If the problem still exists, it's most likely a preference file
that's corrupt. See  these pages for help:

3) If the problems still exist in the new User, it's a problem with your
base OS files. If running the Apple combo does not fix, then you might need
to do an "Archive & Install".
