Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Email Client: pop
Recently upgraded Entourage and I can no longer open email attachments of any kind. Whether the attachment is pdf or excel, the file comes up as 'winmail.dat' and it will not open. The file is not corrupted as viewed on other PC.
Any advice?

Try searching Google for "Entourage winmail.dat", for starters...

Send responses to the relevant news group rather than to me, as
E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my very hungry SPAM
filter. Due to Google's refusal to prevent spammers from posting
messages through their servers, I often ignore posts from Google
Groups. Use a real news client if you want me to see your posts.

Try using Josh Jacob's free "TNEF's Enough" application to deal with such
attachments:

The solution mentioned above works well, but it requires you to save the winmail.dat file outside of the applicable email it was received in. This means the converted file no longer resides inside the email which can be a pain for later lookup, short of going through this entire data conversion process again.
Is there any way to save and/or replace the readable file attachment back into the email the winmail.dat attachment was received in?

Did you bother to read the links?
Winmail.dat and/or application/ms-tnef files are sent by Windows users of
Outlook or Exchange who have their mail clients set up to use 'RTF' instead
of plain text or HTML.
Usually they only contain a styled text version of the message you have just
read in plain text, but they can contain encoded attachments that you can't
usually get to.
TNEF's Enough, by Josh Jacob, allows you to extract and read these files and
attachments.
Better still, contact your correspondent and ask them to reset their mail
format from the (MS proprietary) "Rich Text" to either "Plain Text" or
"HTML. If they have you in their Outlook Address Book they can make a
setting to always send you Plain Text automatically.
