Starting last evening, my sent emails are no longer kept. I checked all of my folders, and they're not there. I made no changes to my rules or anything else.

An update- this only happens with outgoing mail that is subject to a particular rule. A simple rule that puts qualifying messages in a certain folder. It would seem to me that if the rule were defective, the message would just go into "Sent Mail" or would go to another folder, rather than just disappear.

So, you're saying your sent messages are not getting moved to the folder
you specified in the rule?
Use the Search menu in the upper right corner and search for your
missing messages. Select All Messages after you start your search.
You might also want to select the folder again in your rule just in case.
Hope this helps!

Bill,
Thanks, but I've already tried that. They aren't anywhere. Very odd.
Jon_in_Carmel@officeformac.com - 23 Jul 2008 02:58 GMT
I just ran another search. The missing emails showed up on it, however- while they "exist", and are in the correct folder, when I look at the folder's contents, they aren't there.
This is very strange.

under the 'view' menu, is 'unread only' or 'flagged only' checked?
If not, then this could indicate database corruption. Strt Entourage
with the option key held down until you see the rebuild screen, then
follow the instructions.

Barry,
Thanks. "Been there, done that"! None checked. I've rebuilt the database twice.
The oddest part is that I can find them with a search, and they even indicate that they are in the correct folder, but when I look at the folder itself, they're not there. If I move them in the search window to another folder (except for Inbox), they show up in the folder that I moved them to. If I put them into Inbox, they don't show up.
This has me totally perplexed.

you have me baffled.
if they are not showing up in the inbox either, I would definitely bet
on a corrupt database - whatever the rebuild engine says!
if you drag the folder where they don't show up to the desktop, then
drag it back into the folder listing, do they show up in the imported
folder? (I reckon there's an even bet that Entourage crashes out during
the export...)

Barry,
No, Entourage didn't crash, but the Finder did!
When I imported the folder, they were there, and I moved them to the folder where they belongs and they showed up.
However, I sent another email that should have been moved to that folder according to the rule, and it's not there.

for now, try to ignore the original folder.
set your rule to move the messages to the newly imported folder - do
they show up in there?
if they do, then this points to a form of corruption that the rebuild
engine is not seeing/fixing. About the only option here is to export
everything and start a new entity. It takes a while recreating all the
mail rules and other stuff, but I would be very nervous of continuing
with an obviously damaged and irreparable database.

I did some more experimenting. The problem involves only one of my accounts. When I send an email from it, the problem occurs. Fortunately it's my "backup" account, not my main one.
Jon_in_Carmel@officeformac.com - 25 Jul 2008 01:20 GMT
That didn't work, so I started a new identity.

We've got the same problem.
Emails are sent but do not get added to the sent items folder.
This is on Entourage 2008 with Exchange Server 2003.
I've tried removing the account from Entourage and re-adding it.
Very annoying. Lots of problems with Entourage. Another problem is when reading emails sent with a Blackberry. The recipient and subject lines are blank and the email is MIME encoded and illegible. It's not the server as it all appears fine when looking with the web interface or Outlook 2000/2003/2007 in Windows.

This is a problem with Blackberry Server and already acknowledged by the
RIM folks. Unfortunately, it has been present since Exchange Server 2000.

This has been reported multiple times here in this newsgroup and someone
from Microsoft is investigating.
No ETA for a fix.

I have the same problem -- started at the same time -- form July 22 on my sent items are not in the sent folder. The preferences are set correctly. Restarting Entourage didn't help. Just installed Entourage (office) 2008 recently. The old Entourage worked fine.
It is vital to me to have a record of my emails for business reasons -- so I am thrilled to learn that Microsoft is apparently releasing defective software.
