Diane,
But without iCal, how can we tell if Sync Services is actually syncing
Entourage data to the Truth database? We have no way of examining it
directly, right? And because the iPhone uses Address Book and iCal as the
sources for data in iTunes, if there is no Entourage calendar in iCal, we
can¹t sync our calendar events to our iPhone. Is that correct?

Yes, Entourage can only sync to the "Entourage" calendar in iCal. Some of
the other MVPs use iPhones so they might be better to help with some of
these details if you continue to have problems.

After syncing Entourage you can use iCal and Address Book to verify
items have synced properly. Everything had to go through the Truth
database first.
iPhone does not sync directly with iCal and Address Book. It too syncs
with the Truth database. If you don't see an Entourage calendar in iCal
then your Entourage data is not syncing properly.
A geeky way of seeing what's happening with the Truth would be to
download the Developer tools from <http://developer.apple.com> and use
SynchroSpector to monitor sync activity. This may be overkill unless
you're really interested in seeing what's happening.
Hope this helps!

OK...but in iTunes, when you select which calendars to synch, I have no
Entourage calendar, which is the issue myself and others have been
complaining about on other posts. Address Book seems to sync ok, but iCal is
much more problematic. I had it working for a day; I added an event to my
Entourage calendar and suddenly all the data in my Entourage iCal calendar
vanished. Address Book has been problematic as well, but not as much so as
calendar syncing.
The MacBU either needs to solve this continuing issue with Sync Services
(and I am at a loss as to why it works better in 2004 than 2008), or provide
a direct conduit with the iPhone.
