I know that I can go up to file and choose "new. . .task" or "new. . .note",
etc. Or, I can click on the calendar, or note icon to switch views and then
click the icon for "new".
Is there a way to add a button on the toolbar so that I can do all of these
within the mailbox view WITHOUT having to go up to file to choose?

Hi Michelle,
unfortunately, it's not possible to customise Entourage's toolbar. You
should request that feature by clicking on Help>Send Feedback on Entourage.
You do know that there's a "New" button in the toolbar, with a tiny black
arrow next to it, which allows you to access the same menu as File>New? It's
still a two-step procedure, but I think it's quicker than File>New.

You can do these actions with a script. Look under the script menu. I
believe there are several default scripts that will get you started. If
these are not default let me know.
Create Event from Message
Create Note from Message
Create Task from Message
Create To Do
ScriptBuilders <http://scriptbuilders.net/> is a great resource for
scripts.
If you are not familiar with using scripts with Entourage see:
