New to Mac so apologies up front if this has been covered elsewhere
(tho I couldn't find anything):
Periodically, for no reason I've been able to figure, I'll get an empty
file appearing on my desktop titled Score Data. "Get Info" tells me
it's a Microsoft Entourage preferences file, tho I don't use Entourage.
Anybody know what this is, where it comes from or how to avoid it?
Thanks.

This file is not from entourage. That the finder is reporting it as the same
type may be down to the fact that they have the same extension or are of the
same 'file type'.
If it is appearing on the desktop is it possible that it is being downloaded
from the internet? The desktop is the default location for downloaded files.

person's solution. turned out file was created by a crossword-puzzle app.
