Um, you're missing something? :)
The quickfilter choices are somewhat limited for Directory Services address
books. If you want more advanced search criteria, try Edit/Advanced Find.
On the plus side, you can be as specific as you like. On the minus side, the
Advanced Find search is "modal" with respect to the GAL -- you can search
local(ly cached) items or GAL items but not both. Also, you cannot browse in
search mode, due to a limitation in Active Directory's VLV implementation.
Also, "Name Starts With" works for last names... so long as you also know
their first names. Not as helpful, I'm sure, but just so's you know.
Doubly also, you can use the asterisk wildcard in the quickfilter search of
the GAL. It has a tendency to slow down the search and/or return many more
results, though.

You can also access the Search by right-clicking on the Address Book icon
(in the group of six icons) and selecting "Directory [Exchange]". Another
method is to click on the Address Book icon and then select your Exchange
account folder in the Views list below. Once in it, click the Find toolbar
icon to get in the Advanced Find window. The name column here displays the
name in the format "last, first middle" so the "Name starts with" will match
on the last name not the first. Does your name column display the name as
"first last"?

Thanks Nathan and Bill
This helps. I still think that the "simple" search interface should have a
choice for last name searching or at least pull up a result like the old
Directory Services menu item did. Or at the very least have a "name
contains" selection. Yes, I see that Advanced Find allows you to do the
last name search but it seems like it's an extra step that didn't exist
before. Even when you go to Advanced Find, you still have to change the
default menu item to "last name" to complete a search (full name requires
you to type in the correct full name).
Oh well, old habits die hard. ;) Thanks for pointing out the changes...I
do appreciate your help!
