Stupid Java newbie question

I am just begining to learn Java and found a number of CW examples
including one compiled application.

When I double-click the latter, it runs just like a normal Macintosh app
but when I recompiled it and ran it from the IDE (current version, OS
10.2.6), it opened up Terminal and ran it from there.  When I
double-click this new compiled app directly, it opens and closes
immediately.

I could find nothing in the code or Settings/Preferences to account for
this difference in behavior.

Could somebody clue me in as to why this is happening?

Thanks.

The Java 1.4 on Mac OS X broke our standalone executable stuff.  In
order to do this now you need to use Jar Bundler.
