I purchased CodeWarrior 10 for Mac OS X at the end of January.
I've now gotten around to trying to use it, and when I launch the IDE I
get a dialog that says:
No valid license key was found for this installation of CodeWarrior
Development Studio. Please register your product by following the
instructions on the registration card or by contacting
license@metrowerks.com or (800) 377-5416.
I gather that this may be related to the license.dat file in the
same folder as the IDE. The one included in the CW 10 disk image that
I downloaded contains only the following text:
###########################################################
# #
# CodeWarrior Development Studio for Mac OS, Version 10.0 #
# #
###########################################################
FEATURE MacOS_CWIDE_Limited metrowks 5.8 permanent uncounted \
xxxxxxxxxxxx HOSTID=ANY
(The "xx..." replaces an alphanumeric string, in case it is "private".)
This does not look like the descriptions posted here previously, which
have mentioned problems with the string "OS X & Classic".
When I purchased CW 10, I received an e-mail from Digital River
that included a serial number. However, I'm getting no chance to enter
this anywhere. And I can find no instructions in either the
Installation Notes or the Quick Start PDF documentation that came with
the product. I gather that some purchasers were instructed to download
a license.dat file. But I only was able to download a PDF file from
Digital River that listed a location for downloading the CW 10 disk
image via FTP (which I did).
I contacted Freescale/MW by e-mail, and they sent me a different
license.dat file, which contains three key sections that look something
like this:
#============ Mac OS Keys ============#
####### IDE #######
FEATURE MacOS_CWIDE_Unlimited metrowks 5.8 permanent uncounted \
xxxxxxxxxxxx HOSTID=ANY
FEATURE MacOS_CWIDE_Limited metrowks 5.8 permanent uncounted \
xxxxxxxxxxxx HOSTID=ANY
However, this file produces the same result--the dialog that no
valid license key was found. Freescale says they tested the
license.dat file they sent me, and didn't have any further suggestions.
Anyone have any idea what is going on, and how can I get my CW 10
activated? I'm stunned that I can't even run it in either
free/limited-file or evaluation/limited-time mode, even without
registering it for purchase. Thanks for any assistance.

your best bet seems to be to contact metrowerks. this issue has come
up alot since CW 10 was released and they seem to be able to deal with
it the best.

After trying different installation locations for CW 10,
different user accounts, different boot volumes, etc., I discovered why
the IDE was having a license failure at launch. The IDE does not like
any non-ASCII characters in the name of a folder enclosing CW 10. Took
the character out, and the IDE launched fine with the license file that
Freescale/MW sent me. Perhaps this will save someone else from
hair-pulling.
