Is there an explanation, and even better yet, a solution to the *long*
time it takes for a project to load for debugging? For me this seems to
have started around the time I updated to 9.x ... I've lived with it
for a long time cuz that really thought it was somehow my fault. And it
still could be.

At any rate, I find that I often avoid debugging because of the lengthy
time it takes to get a debug session going. CW is off for a long time
"Loading debug data for target xxxx" - 20-30 *seconds* for a relatively
small tool. Seems to happen for a variety of standalone programs, as
well as libraries. All MachO...

Is there anyway I can determine what CW is looking for that takes so
dang long? And put it somehwere that will result in a shorter search
time perhaps?

This sounds like the break for C++ exceptions bug.

The solution is to either turn this off or to add a access path to the
shielded folder for the runtime sources.

Seems like I have seen a preference/project setting before for this
before. But for the life of me I cannot find it now :-( How about a
hint? I've walked all the preferences, and project settings, and I just
cant see it. Kinda like the extra semicolon problem...

I did go ahead and add paths to the runtime sources to no avail. Tried
both system and user access paths:

  {Compiler}MacOS X Support/Libraries/Runtime/(Source)
[non-recursive]
  {Compiler}MacOS Support/Libraries/Runtime/(Common Sources)
[recursive]

This had no effect whatsoever. Dang...

Other ideas? Suggestions?

TIA,

You have to launch the Debugger then it is in the Debugger menu  Break
on C++ Exceptions.

If it doesn't launch at all, you have to reinstall the XCode Tools so it
can find GDB.

ahhh ... Found it and it was off...

It does launch, and eventually I get the debug window. Just takes 20sec
to get there.

Sounds like my situation may not be the bug you spoke of earlier...

Is there a log somewhere of what is going on? ie, what CW is searching
for, or loading, or whatever? so I could get  to the bottom of this
delay?

I believe you can turn on Apple's Diagnosis but I don't think Metrowerks
plugin diagnosis will help.

You could try trashing the Metrowerks Global preferences as well as the
project's data folder and start all over re-searching for files.  that
might help.
