IDE Crash when plist compiler runs...

Dang.

[OS10.3.8, CW9.4]

I tried to replace a .plc file in my project w/ a different one only to
have CW crash. Returning to the original .plc file does not help. I've
trashed the Data folder to no avail... Using the "old" .plc file and
just compiling it will consistently cause CW to put up a crash report.
Has worked fine for months...

I've search the news group w/o success, but it seems that this is
familiar territory. I've checked file permissions, and access paths.

Anyone have a work-around?

Try moving the project to a differnet folder, I've seen where that
helps, I have my theory why but get laughed at when I put them out.  But
still it works a lot of times.

If that doesn't work, try trashing the CodeWarrior Preferneces in tye
Libraries/Preference folder for the user.   That might be what is
corrupted.

Move to a different folder? Hmmm ok ... but when thats done, can I move
the project file back to its original location (if the problem is
corrected)?

I see Librariies/Preferences/Metrowerks ...  do I trash the entire
folder, or a selected file within?

Not if my theory is correct, although if you change the name of the
executable it should acheive the same thing.

depends on how many special settings you have,  but at the most just
delete the CW 9 one.  (oh yeah of course make sure CW is not running at
this time).  By default CW will use the previous version settings if it
doesn't find one.

Ron,
You've got me curious now...

What is your theory about why renaming the folder might help?

Part of the reason I ask is that without understanding what CW is
doing, it makes it very frustrating from our point of view to fix
things.

For example, I have two systems with CW.  I tried to swap crt.o with
mwcrt.o.  On one system, I could browse or drag it in and CW would take
the file.

On the other one, I was not able to browse or drag it into the project.

Now I have to figure out why it works on one system and not the
other... from what I could tell, the files are the same...

I'd like to know what I can do to actually FIX this instead of the
usual steps of:
trash preferences
reinstall CW, with updates, and recompile headers...

My initial guess is the type/creator codes are out of wack, but
GetFileInfo shows them to be the same...

I believe OS X has hidden files that are not touched but become
corrupted or in error.  and when you just remove the object code or even
trash the executable files these hidden files continue to exist

Same OS Version,  I believe that drag and dropt in 10.4 was fixed in
10.4.1    The other reasons for not being able to drag and drop to a
project is that the file already exits but for a differnet target.
