ejecting a disc?

any tricks any one can suggest for getting a disc to eject

Hold down the mouse whilst starting up your computer.
You did not say which model you are using, if it is a PowerPC try this link:

Using either of those:
first, make sure any apps that used it (for data or files or the app)
are quit, entirely.
Then, SELECT THE DISC
THEN use the keys, or select the menu item

If you are doing it during the startup process, hold down the mouse
button.

You can select and DRAG to the trash -- that means "put this off the
computer"

In OS X, from list view you can click the icon next to the removable.

Usually on the right side of the drive is a spot that if you slide a
straightened paper clip in it will manually eject the disc. Had this
trouble one time with an original iMac.
