I hope the previous owner cleaned out all their personal stuff and also
left all the software that came with the machine.

Since you don't have any disks or manuals I would try to find a book on
the iMacs at a second hand store. You should also look for a local
Macintosh User Group and join them for a lot of free help. You can find
a group near you at
www.apple.com/usergroups/

92 meg RAM is plenty for OS 8.5 and you can upgrade to 8.6 with a free
download from Apple.com. But if you want to invest in OS 9 you should
add more memory. Yes you can get on the internet and you can use AOL if
you want. You can hook up to the Internet by plugging a phone line into
the modem jack or an ethernet cable into the network jack. The jacks
look similar but the phone jack is smaller. Use the modem to dial into
AOL or some other dial up service. Use the ethernet to hook up to a
cable or DSL modem. All the software you need should be on the hard
drive.

If you get an external CD burner make sure it is compatible with your
machine - probably limited to USB 1.1 ports. Anything marked USB 2
probably will not work or work very slowly.

Welcome to the Mac world!
